Lovers 연인

I finally got my hands on this one.

My hands shook so hard while I opened the box.

My throat suddenly became dry as I reached for the final disc in the box.

My heart raced so fast, I couldn't breathe as I inserted the disc into the DVD player.

My fingers suddenly froze while I pressed the fast forward button.

I stopped as 33min.

I waited.

Then, suddenly the familiar piano intro filled the room, amidst the soft trickle of the afternoon drizzle outside.

"......니가 없는 거리에는....." and 성시경came to view in "oh-so-wonderful-purple-jacket-and-baggy-pants" at 33:25 on the counter.

And the 6 months' wait suddenly FINALLY made sense .

.

.

.

Eh? 뭐라고요? "연인"요?

Ah......I'm sorry. With Kyung's voice in my head, I had a temporary lapse of reality.

I should really talk about the drama now, yeah?

OK.

The gist:

Plastic Surgeon, Dr Yoon Mi Joo fell in love with a rich, well-built, chocolate brownie gangster, albeit a dimpled, diabetic one. But the Dimpled one was tied to Dr Yoon's next door neighbour, Yoo Jin, who incidentally is pregnant with a potentially dimpled baby.

In the meantime, Dr Yoon was matchmade to The Dimpled Chocolate Brownie's (who, incidentally ate lots of Dove chocolates in this drama for medical reasons) boss' only son - (*or so we thought.....*). He's a vanilla cheesecake - kinda ajosshi looking, but not so bad la.

Anyway, there's your usual "spend the day by the sea" scenes, and "grab her by her hands" scene - which I am sure, most women would love to have our hands suddenly grabbed by our men, led to the rooftop garden of the office building, and exchange longing stares.........
I shan't ruin your viewing pleasure by telling you what happen at the end. But I will say this: The 2 lead actors have so much chemistry that I was glued to the tv everytime they are on screen together.

Eun Sook told me yesterday that they're a real-life couple now. Nice.

이서진 - The epitomy of ajosshi + oppa rolled into one. When he was in Phoenix or Firebird - (whichever you are happier with), he was so "cody" - as what my daughter and I would call dorky-looking leading men - until much later when he FINALLY cut off his dreadlocks. Talking about Phoenix....ah...I miss Lee Eun Joo....

In this drama, although he still had his cody moments, his appeal lies in his physique, his dimples and his eyebrows. At least that's what I think.
Tiffany talked about this in her review of this drama awhile ago. She went bonkers over those dimples.

김정은 - I thought she looked a wee bit older in this drama than in Lovers in Paris. But, I must say, I enjoyed the drama BECAUSE of her acting. Although I am not a fan, she was believable as a down-but-not-out Mi Joo.

The first 2 episodes were well written and directed to capture the audience's attention. It caught mine, of course. I always say that the first episode could make or break the drama.

But, there's a but.

I did not enjoy the gangster scenes.

I did not enjoy seeing 이서진's dimples getting hit. They're just too lovely to be subjected to such rough actions.

Overall, although I am not likely to rewatching this for a while, I would give this drama 4 pop corns. It earned the 4 because of 이서진 & 김정은 's acting in the last 2 episode. I felt their loss, their yearning - I finally understood the real meaning of 그리움 - like no other 그리움 that I have seen in other dramas. ...

And of course, the final 4 pop corns were also due to 성시경's remarks about him having lots
of 누나* fans...heh heh.....

* 누나 - elder sister as addressed by men.
